Our week in the UK

First of all, thanks everyone who worried about Aiden and the Noro virus. He seems to be in the all-clear now, despite a lack of sleep and a bit of a runny nose. He is eating normally again and seems full of energy!

We had a nice holiday over the New Year in the UK! Both my father and sister live there now, so we thought it would be a good chance to get out of Japan, see some family, and go somewhere kind of new (I haven`t been to the UK since I was 4-5 years old, and Yoshi went when he was 17).

We flew into Heathrow airport (London) at around 5:00pm on the 27th of December and spent the first night at the Sheraton Heathrow hotel (a 12 pound taxi ride from the terminal).

We also had a nice pub dinner with Eve (my sis) and enjoyed some UK food; bangers and mash!! (sausages and mashed potato, veges and gravy).

The next morning my dad came to pick us up and drove us back to his home in Sherborne (about 2 hours drive from Heathrow). Sherborne is an amazing little town where all the buildings are old and made of stone and very very cute...

 this is Sherborne Abbey

It was so nice to spend 2 days in the peace and quiet that envelops this town. My dad was a great host and took us to the Longleat home and Safari park, as well as the Haynes motor museum!

We even enjoyed some local UK fish and chips and a great meal at the pub too.

We went back up to London on the 30th and spent several great days sightseeing, shopping, walking and eating. It was nice to see Eve and her bf too! Aiden loved seeing them after such a long time, and it was so cool to see him interacting with my family!

We stayed at the Ibis London city, and on the way back we took a door-to-door cab which was almost as cheap as the train and much easier with luggage and a baby in tow!!

Some of the highlights of the trip?

The London zoo...

Camden town. Yoshi bought a cool pair of Doc Martins here and it was fun people watching!

The winter wonderland in Hyde Park.

Harrods ice-cream parlor...

Random ice-skating rinks set up all over the city... we went to one at Canary Wharf where Yoshi had fun skating and we watched from the chilly sidelines.

Madam Tussauds...

Other sights...

Back to Japan on the 4th of January 2013.

Great fun!! Thanks Eve and dad xx

  1. It looks like a fun trip! I'm jealous that you got to go to London(my hometown), I was pretty homesick this holiday! Glad Aiden is on the mend.

  2. What a great trip. Love old English towns. We lived in Oxford for a year when I was 5 and I haven't been back since but fingers crossed my friend gets engaged this year and I can start saving for a flight. Sans child/ren would be fab :)
Belated New years greetings. Have a fabulous 2013. xxx
